Juraj Kojs: E-Slovakia (2015)
September 24, 2015 at 7:30PM Performing and Cultural Arts Theater
E-Slovakia is an hour-long interdisciplinary work combines sound, movement and visuals in a real-time controlled environment, contemplating the experies from Juraj's native Slovakia. A set of wireless sensors developed at Department of Aesthetics and Communication - Information Science (Aarhus University, Denmark) assist in building and navigating inside an artistic content. Attached to the body of the performer, the sensors are used to control the speed, direction and modulation of the music and moving images. The immediate feedback between the movement and audio-visuals facilitates a fine tuning between the human body and digital technologies, a relationship that is intrinsically intimate and intense. How do the technologies expand our bodies, consciousness and the notion of what art can be? Witness the futuristic transformation of the historical landscapes to poignant contemporary distortions through a lens of an immigrant. In the work, Kojs engages into a dialogue in which various disciplines, science and contemporary technology-driven culture all play defining roles. Commissioned by Broward College Cultural Affairs.
