On That Very Day

a text piece installed around the space on the strips of paper

On that very day
When you were seemingly making coffee
And nobody was watching your arms
As the light flex of your fingerprints
Lurking to find the switch
Stretching the hypothenar muscles
Up and right
Almost imperceptibly
Powering the white dust sprinkles
Abandoned and sleepy
Particles of small atoms conducting
The droplets of your skin moisture

Connected

Giving birth
To voltage that could heal
Quietly
Alone
Transducing your omni directional authority
Like a rhizome with no resistance

On that very day
I was there to capture that subtle current
And collected it all
And I took it to the heart of the earth
And you knew it.

Juraj Kojs: Three Installations (May 14 - June 30 2011 at O-Cinema in Miami, FL)

A Window: Riding Music and Light from Juraj Kojs on Vimeo.

A Window: Riding Music and Light

a muscle-powered installation

A Window: Riding Music and Light expands my muscle-powered performance work Neraissance. A permanent magnet DC generator from the Windstream Power is attached to a stationary bicycle. A pedaling viewer powers the musical greeting cards and two sets of LED lights. The pedaling speed controls the presence and intensity of both the sounds and lights.

The lights and cards are embedded in the heart-shape area made of numerous holiday greeting cards received over the years. As the light emerges with the pedaling power, the viewer is enabled to peak into the world of author's personal memories.

A Window: Riding Music and Light investigates the ecological potential of the human movement. Our kinetic "waste" energy can indeed initiate expressive art creations. Such projects have the capacity to raise awareness about how we use our bodies to operate in the world.

Pedal Up and Air

a muscle-powered installation

Pedal Up and Air also utilizes kinetic muscle energy of the viewer. The energy is first transduced to electrical power and then to mechanical energy in a form of an air flow.

A permanent magnet DC generator from the Windstream Power is attached to a stationary bicycle and powers a 12V air pump.

The viewer is invited to:

1. attach the balloon to the pump
2. inflate and tie the balloon
3. personalize the balloon with a marker
4. take the balloon or leave it behind in the space.

Shared art space is then composed of the personalized energy memories imprinted inside and outside of the balloons.
